You Can Lean on God

The eternal God is your refuge, and his everlasting arms are under you. Deuteronomy 33:27, NLT

When trouble seems all around us, it does our hearts good to remember in whose arms we rest. Just this week as I was consoling a friend who had lost a child, the old hymn “Leaning on the Everlasting Arms” came to my mind. With despair often comes the feeling of aloneness. The feeling of a rug being pulled from under us. We just might topple under the weight of our pain.

“What have I to dread, what have I to fear, Leaning on the everlasting arms…Safe and secure from all alarms.”

Friends, we cannot hold ourselves up alone when the enemy of our very souls is trying to shove us down at every move. We need Jesus. He is our strong tower.

The name of the LORD is a strong tower; The righteous runs into it and is safe. Proverbs 18:10, NASB

Lord, we need You! The job description You gave for Yourself in the Gospel of Luke is what we need. We need some good news! We need freedom for our oppression and freedom from the prisons that bind us. Sweet Jesus, hide us under Your wings. Hold us up because we are weary. When we doubt, help our unbelief. Lord, help us feel your presence in tangible ways. Our trust is in You. Encircled in Your loving, everlasting arms we lean in close. In the mighty name of Jesus we pray. Amen.
