Stepping Scared

“I came to you in weakness – timid and trembling.” 1 Corinthians 2:3, NLT

We don’t normally associate timidity with Paul. His missionary journeys spread the gospel of Jesus across miles. Saul became Paul on the Damascus Road and it changed this harsh megaphone for The Law and Judaism to a compassionate light for Jesus.

God used Paul to change lives, and in the end, Paul lost his life for the gospel.

I love his transparency in verse three. Paul was anxious to get it right. His knees trembled – he felt that flutter as he moved forward. Paul knew Jesus had called him. He knew, because he knew, that the path he was to walk would be difficult and crazy exhilarating at the same time. He stepped scared.

Stepping Scared

Taking a new step – or a next step – toward a life of abundant, victorious living often feels scary. That’s OK.

Knees shaking, heart beating, sweaty palms, breathless, ready to run, are all natural feelings when we are doing something different – something new.

Step scared.

  1. “Step scared.” I love that!!! Such a great reminder that sometimes we are scared but we have to do it anyway! We’re neighbors at Testimony Tuesday! xoxo

  2. I’m going to remember this Carmen! Step scared. Yes, we will have moments of shaky knees, but we need to move forward anyway! Love this, friend:)

  3. Thank you for this insight into Paul, Carmen. I have read that verse, but it never sunk in that he was “timid and trembling.” He always seemed so bold and courageous. Yes, stepping forward into something new can be scary, but the God who gave Paul sufficient grace can give it to us, too, right? Blessings and hugs!
