Encouraging Those Who Discouraged Us

theme-pouring outAs I was struggling up my little hill on this morning’s walk, thoughts about forgiveness came to mind. For instance, is encouraging those that caused us pain a part of the forgiveness package? You know the one, seventy times seven, turn the other cheek. That package.

I think it may be. One reason I have come to this conclusion is because more often than not, hurting people hurt others. Hurt comes in different forms. Fear, jealousy, betrayal, disappointment, and discouragement all could be classified as hurt.

Life is just so disheveled at times. Maybe the ones of us who have walked a little longer, deeper, and wider with God will need to extend the hand of encouragement when we are still stinging from our own pain.

Giving encouragement when it’s inconvenient and uncomfortable is so stinking annoying sometimes. Yet, it is so blessedly beautiful as well.

Pouring out empties us for God to pour in.

Pouring out is what we do when we serve, minister, give, and mentor. It’s what I do when I write. I pray, asking God to pour something into my soul so I can then pour out to everyone He sends my way.

I asked and received from Him a better way to organize what He gives me to share. With the help of a mentor in writing, Angela, I have a plan.

Next week which just happens to be next month, I will begin using these prompts that emphasize my purpose in writing- Walking with Women, Embracing God’s Truth. Each of these words represents a passion of mine in ministry. I also believe these will help me with consistency and open up my mind to do more free-lance writing and speaking. I’m a planner, therefore when I have a plan, I am much more productive. I hope you enjoy my interpretation of these topics each week. Here’s how they might look…

People – relationships, marriage, parenting, friendship

Principles – a deeper look into Scripture

Possibilities – goals, action steps, healthy living, vision

Pouring Out – mentoring, missions, giving, extending ourselves

I look forward to our conversations. God will use us to help one another be better, resemble Jesus a little more closely. That’s what good friends do for one another.

  1. Exciting Carmen! I look forward to seeing what pours out in the months ahead; and, to extend the metaphor, how broad and long it may run.
