Sometimes we must be – still…

“Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him…” Psalm 37:7 (ESV)

My heart beats quickly and my mind races. I want action. Being still seems impossible.

I’m a fixer by nature. So, naturally, that places me in the junior god position often. I find myself offering God options. Helping Him devise solutions. Lord, we have a few options here. Number one…or we can…

Sometimes I slow down long enough to catch myself. Other times I miss the absurdity of it all together.

God is God…And I am not Him

Sometimes we need to be still

I love to read how God explains himself in the book of Job. “Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell me…” (38:4 NLT) Over the course of four chapters, God questions Job. Reading those questions are a great reminder to me that I’m just not qualified for my position as junior god. My best answer can only be what Job says in 40:3 -5, “I am nothing – how could I ever find the answers? I will put my hand over my mouth in silence. I have said too much already. I have nothing more to say.”

Do you ever catch yourself taking on the universe?  Are you like me – smack dab in the middle of some kind of craziness?

Today I give us permission to be…still

  1. Can’t you just imagine God lovingly chuckling at us sometimes? But I think most of us have offered up possible solutions for our problems when we pray. It’s so hard to let go of that “junior God” title, but yet so important. Psalm 37:7 is one of my favorite Bible verses. It was fun to see you pair it with Job where it just seems to fit so beautifully. Thank you for your thoughts. So grateful to have found you!

  2. Oh to allow ourselves to be still and let God do the fixing!!! Beautiful permission from our beautiful God! Blessed you linked up with The Weekend Brew and I’ll have to catch you sometime for Five Minute Friday too.

  3. I really liked your photo and the intentionally words and the Words. One way you grabbed me…I’m finishing Nehemiah and Esther and then will be in Job. Have many times, but sometimes I end up filled with confusion. So, with your info, I know the Lord is prodding me to do it, no questions asked. I’ll obey again. He told me to start reading the OT and I began reading from Genesis about 2-1/2 months ago. Reading some of PS along the way also, but will be continuing, and you are the one person that just grabbed my attention. Thanks much. It’s a real God-gift. Bless you.

  4. Perfect reminder for me today. There is a God. And I’m not Him… so I cover my mouth for I have said too much already. Thank you for this reminder to be in awe ..for I am in His presence. Loved this.
