Would you like to borrow my big eraser?

Some days I need a big eraser. Do you have those days in your life’s book? Red eraser crumbs would be sprinkled across the pages of our lives. Evidence left behind of our mistakes, sins and difficult days.

Would you like to borrow my big eraser?

I feel like Paul, “I want to do what is good, but I don’t. I don’t want to do what is wrong, but I do it anyway.”(Romans 7:19) My sin nature is constantly working against me. How can this be? I have surrendered my heart and life to Jesus Christ. Isn’t that enough?

Apparently not. You know about those days, right? We do or say something and we think, where in the world did that come from? I thought I had conquered…, or, I never thought I would do…, you fill in the blanks.

We need God to use the big eraser of the Cross.

“Now repent of your sins and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped away.” (Acts 3:19)

Difficult days would also have their share of eraser crumbs. Are you like me and find it hard to “consider it pure joy…whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.”? (James 1:2-3) I just want those kind of days to be over. Let’s face it, they stink. Rarely do I remember that a testimony will follow the test. Most of us would be “tickled pink” as we say in the south to boast of a victory without stepping foot in a battle.

Sometimes the only positive that I can see after a trial is an opportunity to walk along side someone who is hurting and say, “I’ve been there. I survived and you will too.” If we had access to that big ol eraser we would miss the opportunity to turn our pain into someone else’s comfort. There is no victory without a battle. Share your strategy with someone and help them win.

We have no power to erase. Torn places in the pages of our lives would be left behind if our heavy hands were at work. Our sins are covered by the blood of Jesus. The difficult days are left in our life’s book to remind us of God’s provision. They stand as a testimony to others.

Maybe we don’t need that beg red eraser after all.

  1. Hi Carmen, This was very encouraging. I wonder if the times we would erase, God is actually highlighting because we are finally on our backs looking up. If only we would look up sooner and more often. Until then, I’m praising God for grace and the gift of sharing comfort with others. Thank you for sharing.

  2. Love the encouragement – “there is no victory without the battle”! How I wish I could avoid the battles in my life, but yet they are where I grow and grow closer to God.
